TOGL raises £850,000 to support depots with electrification plans.

New depot flexibility software company secures pre-seed investment as it prepares to work with Welch Group through the Freight Innovation Fund Accelerator.

By Alex Baker, Chief Commercial Officer

TOGL has completed a £850,000 pre-seed investment round to accelerate the development and commercial rollout of our depot flexibility software. We are also preparing to work with Welch Group through the Freight Innovation Fund Accelerator, testing how smarter charging can help electric fleets control costs, make better use of existing grid capacity and keep vehicles ready for operation.

Press release

TOGL has completed a £850,000 pre-seed investment round to support the development and commercial rollout of depot flexibility software designed to cut fleet charging costs, fit more electric vehicles onto existing grid connections and help keep vehicles ready for their shifts.

The round was led by Haatch, the UK-based early-stage investor, with additional investment from Setanta Vehicle Importers, the authorised Renault Trucks importer in Ireland, and Lancashire-based angel investors Fhunded Angels. TOGL will use the funding to expand its team, develop its technology and accelerate its work with fleet operators, energy partners and other industry stakeholders. This is in addition to TOGL securing an initial £25,000 investment in September 2026 as part of the Baltic Ventures Accelerator 2026.

Alongside announcing this investment, TOGL is preparing to develop a trial with Welch Group through the fifth Freight Innovation Fund Accelerator, delivered by Connected Places Catapult on behalf of the Department for Transport. One of 11 SMEs selected to develop a trial, TOGL will examine how much charging flexibility exists within Welch’s haulage operation without interfering with its transport schedule.

Electric vehicle charging can place a substantial new load on a depot, particularly when vehicles return and plug in at similar times. This can increase charging costs, consume the site’s available capacity and bring forward the need for a costly grid connection upgrade.

TOGL, through its depot flexibility software, is being built to schedule charging around departures rather than arrivals, aiming to move charging into lower-cost periods, reduce unnecessary peaks, fit more vehicles onto the existing connection and keep every vehicle ready for its shift.

Working with Welch Group will test this approach against real shift patterns, vehicle requirements and site power limits.

Will Maden, CEO and Co-Founder of TOGL

“Across the UK, depot electrification often stalls because the numbers simply do not add up, whether that is the total cost of ownership of the vehicles or the discovery that, after procuring vehicles and chargers, the depot does not have sufficient grid capacity to operate them.

This investment gives us the resources to expand the TOGL team, continue developing our technology and help fleets solve this exact problem.

Alongside this, the opportunity to work with Welch Group means we can develop a trial around real vehicle movements. We'll show how TOGL can reduce charging cost, fit more vehicles onto the depot’s grid connection, and, crucially, make sure every vehicle is ready for its shift.”

Charlie Weavers-Wright, Principal, Haatch

“We are pleased to back TOGL in its next, exciting stage of development. The proposition is directly addressing a clear barrier to fleet electrification, with a team that brings strong experience across EV charging, energy and fleet operations.”

Jamie Sands, Head of Solutions, Welch Group

“We provide transport and logistics solutions across the UK and are very conscious of our environmental impact. Working with TOGL gives us an opportunity to design a trial around our operating conditions, exploring how charging can be scheduled in a more effective and environmentally aware way, without compromising the readiness of the vehicles that our customers depend on.”

Harry Nash, Managing Director, Setanta Vehicle Importers

“For more than thirty years we’ve been selling and maintaining trucks. That means we understand the challenges our customers face around electrification

We believe our investment in TOGL is a very logical move as their offering seeks to address several electrification challenges. We’re excited to be supporting them on the next stage of their journey.”

Founded by a team with experience across EV charging, energy infrastructure and fleet operations, TOGL is working with fleet operators and industry partners to develop its technology.

The TOGL team is made up of the four co-founders, Dan Turner, co-founder and chief product officer; Alex Baker, co-founder and chief commercial officer; Luke Buckley, co-founder and chief operational officer; and Will Maden, co-founder and chief executive officer.

About TOGL

TOGL Energy Limited, trading as TOGL, is a depot flexibility software company helping fleet operators manage the cost and operational complexity of electrification.

Its software is being built to connect vehicle schedules, charging requirements and site power capacity in one system. By scheduling charging around when vehicles need to leave, rather than simply when they return to the depot, TOGL aims to reduce charging costs, avoid unnecessary demand peaks and fit more vehicles onto existing grid connections while keeping every vehicle ready for its shift.

Where operational flexibility remains and market access allows, TOGL aims to connect fleet energy assets with wider energy markets, creating potential revenue opportunities without disrupting transport operations.
